Communication
Throughout this semester I have learned a lot about blogging. I never would have thought about blogging if it were not for this class. It has helped me to organize my thoughts and feelings. At the end of the week, I am able to reflect over my experiences throughout the week. Not only do I blog on blogger.com, I also blog on Myspace.com. It has not only allowed me to blog, but also to keep in touch with friends and family that are back home. My father is in the air force and therefore is stationed in Alaska. He signed up for MySpace to keep in touch with my sisters and me. We are able to put up pictures so he can see how much we have changed and what sort of activities I have done. Writing a letter by hand takes time, plus it costs money. MySpace is free and also is a quick ways to write to my father about things going on in my life like school and friends. The difference between blogging on the website and blogging on MySpace is that through blogging on the website I am able to communicate with my classmates to learn more about them. Blogging as a class allowed me to see the other side of my fellow classmates not just the quiet class part. Although blogging is a good way to communicate, it should not be the only way to communicate. You are unable to see facial expressions through the computer. You also miss out on all the visuals like movement and stuff. For example, I know when I talk I need to use my hands to express my story better or with more emphasis on parts. I also think that when you are just talking through cyberspace there is no way to see the persons face and read if they are joking or serious, lying or telling the truth, and things like that show that cyberspace allow people to be someone they are not if they chose to. There are still circumstances that people that know you really well don’t need to see your expression or hear your voice to know that you’re not feeling great or whatever your mood may be. I see the pros and cons to both sides of using cyberspace as a tool of communication. Anyways, it has been great reading everyone’s blog I defiantly enjoyed the assignment I think it was a great way to share news with others and I think it was a great assignment to get to know each other better. I think he helped the class conversations have more diversity since we had a wide variety of opinions and backrounds. Hope everyone has a great summer and it truly has been fun J

Good News!
Hey all! I know we don’t have to blog this week unless we want to do one for extra credit. Since, I got great news this week I decided that I wouldn’t mind writing another blog since I could actually think of something to write about! Earlier this week I got a call of the NAU dental hygiene program, they were calling because I was one of the 24 excepted into the program for next year! I was so excited because now I have my major really on track and won’t just be doing prerequisites anymore. Getting into the program brought me so much relief, except I haven’t completed my stats class yet. Therefore, I have to take summer school for the last half of the summer L ! But with that I got good news, since I have to stay up here and take a class I decided to apply for summer conference leader here on campus, it’s kind of like an RA job but you don’t have certain people cause there are different camps every weekend. So, the day after I got my call about dental hygiene I got a call saying I was hired on and would be staying in Sechrist for the summer! Which I was also relieved about since I won’t have to move my stuff very far on move out day! Anyways, I hope everyone is really buckling down these last few weeks, remember it will all be worth it! Have a great week J

Game Night!
Since I have come to college, my friends and I have found new ways to come together. Back in high school, at least for me and my high school friends, a normal hangout on a Friday or Saturday night was going to the movies. I came to the realization that when you go to the movies, there is no way to talk and catch up with friends. My friends and I have a ritual of coming together on the weekends, and sometimes even on weekdays, to play board games. It is a good way to get everyone involved. Before and after playing we always find ourselves telling jokes, childhood stories and just laughing for hours. I feel so appreciative to have met such great friends up in Flagstaff. Even if we only play one round of games, it is still a way to bring us together to talk about our week or day. Some of our favorite games that we play are Pictionary, Taboo Apples to Apples and Sequence. The games allow us to be able to see which of my friends are competitive. Some of us get really worked up. When we play Pictionary, it gets very competitive and loud. We have had many RAs come into the room to tell us to be quiet. The memories of trying to “stay quiet” after being told to by the RAs that we were too loud were some of the funniest times. So the next time you and your friends are sitting around bored, wondering what to do, grab a game from the front desk of your residence hall. You will be so surprised how many laughs you will get. It is a great way to bond with your friends.

Oak Creek Canyon
Yesterday my friends and I went down to Oak Creak in Sedona. I had never been there before, but some friends insisted on taking me. It was nice to get out of the Flagstaff area and to explore other places. If you have ever been in that area, you know what I’m talking about when I say how pretty the red rocks are. We all parked our cars and hiked down into the canyon to the creek. Although it was a little windy and the water was freezing, it was relaxing lying out on the rocks with my friends. I saw a few people I recognized there. I did not realize that this was a place people from school liked to go. In a couple weeks when it gets warmer, my friends and I are planning on going there to lie out and cool off in the water. My friends who regularly go down there have a tradition of stopping at the Dairy Queen on the way back. I plan on making that Dairy Queen trip a tradition for me too. I cannot wait until the weather gets warmer to go back.
